Woodrow W. Van Metre

 

INWOOD, W.Va. - Woodrow Wilson Van Metre, 85, of Inwood, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Virginia.

Born Oct. 28, 1912, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Fred L. and Laura Rinehart Van Metre.

He retired from the B&O Railroad as a blacksmith in 1977.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for more than 60 years.

He also was a member of No. 1 Fire Co.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Walker Van Metre, whom he married Dec. 26, 1934; one daughter, Norma J. Coe of Inwood; one granddaughter, Janet Coe of Manchester, Conn.; one aunt, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Lemen and Rose Lee Walker; and three brothers, Frederick Van Metre, James F. Van Metre and Douglas R. Van Metre.

Services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel in Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. James D. Riley will officiate. Private burial will be in Rosedale Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Musselman S. Berkeley Community Library.
