Willard L. Van Meter

Willard Lee Peters Van Meter, 93, of Petersburg, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va.

Mrs. Van Meter was born Sept. 8, 1910, in Romney, W.Va., and was the daughter of the late Edgar Lee Peters and Inez Saville Peters.

She graduated from Shepherd College and taught school. She and her husband owned Locust Shade Dairy Farm for over 40 years. They were owners of High Rock Drive-In in Keyser, W.Va. and managers of the Fort Hill Drive-In in Petersburg, W.Va., for several years.

Her husband, Garrett S. Van Meter, preceded her in death Aug. 28, 1992.

She is survived by three sons, Garrett S. "Gary" Van Meter of Fort Worth, Texas, W.E. "Ed" Van Meter of Petersburg, W.Va., and George K. Van Meter of Fort Collins, Colo.; eight grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Guy Richard Cardot will conduct the funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Petersburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
