Vera Lee Van Meter

MORO - Vera Lee Van Meter, 75, formerly of Hartford and Carrollton, died Tuesday morning, June 3, 2003, at the home of her son in East Alton. She was born July 13, 1927, in Carrollton to William and Mabel (Edwards) Stendeback. She married Donald E. Van Meter on Sept. 4, 1947, at the Presbyterian Church in Carrollton. He died Feb. 23, 1988. She and her family lived in the Hartford area for many years.
Surviving are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Gregory and Sue Van Meter of Burlington, Iowa, Bruce Van Meter of Gillespie and Steven and Carol Van Meter of East Alton; two daughters and their husbands, Cindi and Jim Best of Smithville, Mo., and Sue and David Snider of Mesquite, Texas; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, William Stendeback of New Orleans, Donald and Janet Stendback of Pittsfield and Larry and Linda Stendeback of Virginia; and a sister and her husband, Doris and Charles Little of Carrollton.
Besides her parents and husband, preceding her in death were a daughter, Pam, and three brothers, Robert D., Stanley and Adrian Stendeback.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church in Carrollton, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday.
Burial will be at Carrollton City Cemetery.
