Stanley L. Van Meter

Stanley L. (Charlie) VanMeter, Sr., 77, of Rawlings, died Thursday, April 14, 2005 at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Born November 12, 1927 in Rawlings, he was the son of the late Melvin VanMeter and Ethel Sadie VanMeter Hansel. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Leslie V. VanMeter, James S. VanMeter and Jack VanMeter.

Mr. VanMeter was a retired construction worker for the Local #616, where he worked for 50 years. He was an Air Force and Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He received the Combat Infantry Badge, an Occupation Medal, Korean Service Medal three Bronze Stars and a Silver Star. Since 1966, he was a member of the Cresaptown Eagles #2883 and he attended the Rawlings United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Goldie L. VanMeter; one daughter, Marlenea Shuck Miller and husband Richard, Levels, W.Va.; three sons, Stanley L. VanMeter, Jr. and wife Rebecca, Rawlings, Leslie R. ?Coke? VanMeter and fianc? Collette, Cresaptown, Frederick M. Shuck and wife Loretta, McCoole; three sisters, Shirley Crites and husband Page, Rawlings, Susan Roser and husband Fred, Bowling Green, Margaret Hughes, Green Ridge; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Harold R. McClay, Jr. Friends will be received at the funeral home one-hour prior to the funeral services.

Interment will be in Biertown Cemetery.

Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.
