Robert Lee Van Meter

Robert Lee, 74, passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Wednesday, March 12, 2003. He was born in Huntington, West Virginia on April 29, 1928, to Wesley and Dorthea Van Meter. He served his country in the United States Air Force, as a navigator. He received an honorable discharge in 1971, retiring at the rank of Major. He adopted Oklahoma as his home, after retiring from the military. He received his Masters of Public Administration Degree from the University of Oklahoma. He then went to work as base historian at Tinker Air Force Base. He retired from civil service in 1993. He is survived by his son, John W. Van Meter, who lives in Washington DC, his daughter, Susan A. Van Meter Andrus, who lives with her husband, John Andrus, in Durham, North Carolina, and his daughter, Melisa L. Van Meter, who lives with her son, Jack Van Meter, in Norman, Oklahoma. Robert will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held at Bill Merritt Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2003. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that a donation be made in Robert's honor to the American Parkinson's Disease Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
