Robert E. VanMeter

ROBERT E. VanMETER Sr., 75, of Marshalls Creek, Pa., formerly of Harvey Cedars, died Sunday at Pocono Medical Center. Mr. VanMeter was a former police chief in Harvey Cedars, retiring in 1971. He was past president of the Ocean County Chief's Association and charter and life member of the High Point Volunteer Fire Co. in Harvey Cedars. Mr. VanMeter was a past member and officer of the Ship Bottom Volunteer Fire Co. and a charter member of the Barnegat Light First Aid Squad. He was past president and a life member of the Long Beach Island Fishing Club, and a charter member of the North American Fishing Club. Mr. VanMeter was a member of the Blue Ridge Cherry Valley Rod & Gun Club, Mariners Masonic Lodge 150, the Marshalls Creek Fire Co., and the Hillcrest Camera Club in Phillipsburg. He was born in Elizabeth. Surviving are his wife, Eva; two sons, Robert E. Jr. of Barnegat Light and Jon of Surf City; four daughters, Nancy Cay Freidman of Jamul, Calif., Cheryl Huelsenback of Ship Bottom, Merry Simmons of Harvey Cedars and Susan Geneva of Barnegat Light; three sisters, Edith Gambi of Beach Haven, Harriet Saddler of Landisville, and Meriba Walker of Fort Myers, Fla; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Cremation will take place at the H.O. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg, Pa. Arrangements are by the Lanterman & Allen Funeral Home, East Stroudsburg, Pa.
