Polly Souther Van Meter

Polly Souther Van Meter, 88, of Petersburg died Friday, March 12, 2004, at her home.

She was born Dec. 28, 1915, the daughter of Latham T. and Lyna Chase Souther. She married William H. Van Meter in 1938; he died in 1988.

Mrs. Van Meter graduated from Springfield High School and attended art school in New York. She was a member of Powder Puff, King's Daughters, the Junior League of Springfield, Planned Parenthood, Sangamon County Civil Defense, Springfield Art Association and the Art League of Marco Island, Fla.

Survivors: a son, John R. (wife, Ruth) Van Meter of Neenah, Wis.; two daughters, Nancy Van Meter of Springfield and Barbara (husband, Lawrence) Kyes of Petersburg; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday, Indian Point Presbyterian Church near Athens, the Rev. William Swaar officiating. Burial: Fancy Creek Cemetery near Sherman.

Mott and Henning Funeral Home in Athens is in charge of arrangements.
