Orville Everett Van Meter

Orville Everett Van Meter, Jr. Passed away on November 20, 2006 at The Plaza at Edgemere in Dallas, Texas. He was born in St. Joseph, MO on June 29, 1922 to Orville E. Van Meter and Marie I. Byers. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a BS in Petroleum Engineering. He earned his masters degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M University. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, honorary engineering fraternity. In 38 years with Mobil Oil, he held positions in Midland, Houston, Los Angeles, Shreveport, New Orleans, New York and Dallas. He retired in 1983. He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley, daughter Marilyn Turner and her husband Jeff of Ft. Worth and daughter Diane Saunders and her husband Rob of Dallas and grandchildren Melissa Babich and her husband Jon of Bedford, Christopher Turner of Houston, Jenny Turner of Ft. Worth, Stacy Saunders of Los Angeles, Emily and Ryan Saunders of Dallas. A memorial service will be held at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel, 7405 NW Hwy on Wednesday, November 22 at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Ln, Dallas, TX 75205 or the Alzheimer's Association, 4144 N Central Expwy, Suite 750, Dallas, TX 75204.
