Morgan Van Metre

 

Martinsburg, W. Va., August 16.

Morgan Van Metre, a native of Berkeley county, died at his home, Opequon Hall, Sunday night. He was in his seventy-fourth year. Mr. Van Metre was a member of Company B. First Virginia’s Regiment of Cavalry, Confederate Army, and served with distinction throughout the Civil War. At the end of the war he returned to this county and engaged in agricultural pursuits until a few years ago when he retired. Surviving are his widow and one sister (Mrs. Georgetta Noland of South Bend, Ind.) The remains will be interred in Green Hill Cemetery, this city.
