Mattie Van Meter

Mattie Van Meter, 94, of Charleston passed away July 2, 2005, at Moss Care Home in Cross Lanes.

A devoted wife and mother, she was born May 8, 1911, in Wayne County, a daughter of the late Sarah Elizabeth and Jink Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Irvin Van Meter Sr.

Mrs. Van Meter was formerly a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church in Huntington, W.Va., where she served as a deaconess and Sunday school teacher. She currently was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Charleston.

She is survived by her son, Irvin Van Meter Jr. and his wife, Benita, of Charleston; daughter, Sara V. Burlingame and her husband, Jack, of Ravenswood, W.Va.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to Helen Moss and her staff at Moss Care Home and especially to Frances for their care and support.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Loudermilk officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery, Huntington, West Virginia.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Wilson Funeral Home, 420 Lee Street West, Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.
