Lorana VanMeter Shaw

LORANA (SAUL) VANMETER SHAW, 71, of Cumberland Drive, Bridgeton, died Thursday at the Cumberland County Medical Center.

Mrs. Shaw worked almost four years as a nurse's aid at the Bridgeton Nursing Center in Bridgeton before her retirement.

She was a member of the Hopewell Crest Chapel of Bridgeton and while a Virginia resident, she belonged to the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. She sang in the choir at both churches.

Mrs. Shaw crocheted and did needlepoint as hobbies.

In 1986, she won first prize in the Virginia State Fair for crocheting a six-foot-long version of the Lord's Prayer.

Born in Bridgeton, she lived in the area most of her life. For a few years beginning in 1984, she lived in Colonial Heights, Va.

Surviving are two sons, Lee W. VanMeter of Colonial Heights, Va., and Bruce VanMeter Sr. of Hopewell Township; a daughter, Lois Hall of Millville; a brother, Tate "Stacy" Saul of Bridgeton; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Hopewell Township Crest Chapel, Hopewell Township. Burial will be in Overlook Cemetery, Bridgeton.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Sunday at the Freitag Funeral Home, Bridgeton.
