Leonard "Jack" VanMeter

GOODWILL, LA - Services for Leonard VanMeter, 93, of Goodwill, will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2003, at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel, Oak Grove, LA. with Rev. David Chapman and Sis. Annie Mae Farmer officiating. Interment to follow at Redwing Cemetery in Oak Grove, LA under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Oak Grove, LA. Mr. VanMeter passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2003. Jack was born on March 13, 1909 in Marthaville, LA. and left this world on Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport after a lengthy illness. Jack was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was at his happiest when surrounded by family and friends but the children always gave him his greatest joy. He was an avid outdoors man. He will be missed by everyone. He was preceded in death by his father, John Henry VanMeter, his mother, Willie Lee Swindle VanMeter two sisters, Alzada "Pud" Griffin and Dovie V. Dove. He is survived by his wife, Charity Smith VanMeter three daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie Elaine and Wayne Yates, Sharron Gayle and Leon Miletello, Jr., Betty Jo "B.J." and Chris Turner six grandchildren: Teresa Yates Crook, Wayne Yates, Jr., Jo Elaine "Joey" Miletello, Cindy Stone, Debbie Herrington, and Stephanie Osborne eleven great-grandchildren: Ethan and Nicole Crook, Alyssa and Destiny Yates, Piper and Peyton Griffs, Hanna and Haley Herrington, Cody and Cade Stone and Connor Osborne one sister, Melva Martin two nieces, Marie McMillan and Sue Lisenby. Pallbearers will be Carroll Womack, Jamie Womack, Andy Womack, Chris Womack, Ronnie Osbon, and Ray Rouse. Honorary pallbearers will be Brown Pevehouse and Gilbert Jones. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home, Thursday, January 23, 2003. Brown-Holley Funeral Home 318-728-4167
