Kenneth P. Van Meter
Kenneth P. Van Meter, 69, died yesterday at home.
The Monroeville native had lived in New Haven the last 45 years. He operated V.M.
Shoe Store in New Haven and later worked for Hush Puppies in Glenbrook Square.
He retired in 1987. For the last three years, he worked as a custodian at St.
John the Baptist Catholic School. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus
Council 451 and the New Haven Volunteer Fire Department. For 25 years, he was a
member of the New Haven-Adams Township Park Board.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; a daughter, Beth Monn of Fort Wayne; sons, Thomas
of South Bend and Jerry of Tempe, Ariz.; sisters, Helen Fritcha of New Haven and
Delores Lepper of Monroeville; a brother, Dr. David of Albion; and seven
grandchildren.
Calling is 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at E. Harper & Son Funeral Home, New
Haven, and from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. services Wednesday at St. John the Baptist
Catholic Church in New Haven. Vigil at the funeral home is at 7:30 p.m.
tomorrow. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Preferred memorials are gifts to Fatima Retreat House, Fort Wayne Visiting Nurse
Service and Hospice Inc., or Masses.
