Van Meter, Joel E., 92, retired farmer, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 1992. Service 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Thayer Christian Church.

Survivors: sons, Dale at home, Wayne of Kansas City, Mo.; daughters, Shirley Powers of Thayer, Marian Carson of Chandler, Ariz., Marjorie Stringer of Fort Scott, Phyllis Johnson of Bartlesville, Okla.; brother, Milo C. of Chanute; 24 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren. Memorials have been established with Thayer Christian Church and the Gideon's International. Gibson-Koch-Friskel Funeral Home, Chanute.
