Horace G. Van Meter
Horace "Harry" G. Van Meter, 84, died Jan. 2, 2000, at Select Specialty Care.
A Reno native, he was born June 16, 1916, to Horace M. and Elizabeth (Gallager)
Van Meter and was a lifetime resident of Reno.
Van Meter was a fireman for the city of Reno, retiring in 1983, after serving 15
years as fire chief. He attended the University of Nevada and was a graduate of
Reno High School. He was a 54-year member of the Masonic Lodge, a life member of
the Western Fire Chief Association and Nevada State Fire Chief Association, a
charter member of the Reno Fireman's Association 731 and a member of Trinity
Episcopal Church.
Son, Michael M., died in 1983.
Surviving are wife, Geraldine, and son, Patrick, both of Reno daughter, Andrea
Danek of Calimesa, Calif., and Anne Hardy of Hawaii seven grandchildren, 15
great-grandchildren and several cousins.
No funeral is scheduled.
Cremation is under the direction of Walton Funeral Home, Reno, with inurnment at
Masonic Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials are being established with the University of Nevada, Reno, School of
Medicine, Savitt Medical Science Building 322, Reno 89557-0046 and the Nevada
Self Help, 2010 W. Moana Lane, Reno 89502.
