Garrett Seymour Van Meter
FORT WORTH - Garrett "Gary" Seymour Van Meter, 76, passed away Tuesday, July
20, 2010.
Memorial service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, Fort
Worth, or the American Cancer Society.
Gary was born Nov. 15, 1933, in Petersburg, W.Va. He was the son of Willard and
Garrett S. Van Meter. Gary and his three brothers, Don, Ed and George, grew up
together enjoying the great outdoors and beautiful mountains of West Virginia.
Gary was a bright student and was chosen to attend Boys State in 1952. He
graduated from West Virginia University with a degree in engineering and took a
job with General Dynamics, now Lockheed Martin, in Fort Worth, in 1956. He met
and married Jo Lynda Higginbotham in 1957. He has two children, Shelly Garrison
of Richardson and Kenny Van Meter of Fort Worth. He was employed by Lockheed
Martin and had a very successful career as an aerosystems engineer. Gary lived
on Eagle Mountain Lake for 51 years.
Survivors: Daughter, Shelly Garrison of Richardson; son, Kenny Van Meter of Fort
Worth; brother, Ed Van Meter of Petersburg, W.Va.; brother and sister-in-law,
George and Susie Van Meter, of Fosterburg, Md.; grandsons, Austin and Cooper
Garrison of Richardson; and wife and friend, Jo Van Meter of Weatherford.
