Evie Van Metre

Evie Van Metre, 84, Mahnomen, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1993, in Mahnomen Nursing Center, where she had lived since 1988.

Evie Turnland was born Nov. 20, 1908, the daughter of Charles and Clara (Steinkoph) Turnland, in Warren, Minn., where she grew up and attended school. In 1929, she moved to Mahnomen and worked at Bonn's Cafe. She married Art Van Metre July 19, 1934, in Mahnomen. They lived in Mahnomen and operated the Corner Cafe.

She is survived by her husband; sister, Marguerite Rust, Phoenix; and nieces, Marcia Hendrickson, Margo Kuehner, Susan Cook and Loreen Cross.

She is preceded in death by sister, Tiny Hlubek.

Services: 3 p.m. Friday in First Lutheran Church, Mahnomen.

Visitation: 1 to 9 p.m. today in Mattson Funeral Home, Mahnomen.

Burial: Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Mahnomen.
