Evelyn H. VanMeter

Evelyn H. VanMeter, 89, Boonville, died at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2006 at Woodmont Health Campus in Boonville.

Evelyn was born on August 17, 1916 the daughter of Fredrick and Artie (Walker) Nierste in Westphalia. She married William Raymond VanMeter on Oct. 9, 1939.

She was a beautician for 33 years and a graduate of Edwardsport High School and the International School of Beauty and Culture. She served in the Coast Guard during World War II, and worked at Lucas Harold Corp. in Indianapolis where the Norden bombsight was made. She served as a pink lady at Good Samaritan Hospital and was a member of the St. John United Church of Christ, Business and Professional Women's Club, Psi Iota Xi sorority, the Fortnightly Club, and the YMCA Auxillary.

Survivors include two nephews and two nieces.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father and husband. Her brother, Fritz Nierste and sister, Opal Bland also preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Salem United Church of Christ Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Kate Lambertson officiating.

Arrangements were handled by Goodwin Funeral Home.
