Ella F. Van Meter

Ella F. Van Meter, 83, died Sept. 18, 2006, at Larned Healthcare Center.

She was born May 6, 1923, north of Burdett, the daughter of Charles Dewey Fagan and Elizabeth A. Browne. A lifetime Burdett resident, moving to Larned Healthcare Center in February 2006, she was a homemaker and local historian.

She belonged to United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women Auxiliary, charter member and officer of the American Legion, all in Burdett, and active supporter of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America.

On Jan. 1, 1945, she married Louis B. Van Meter in Burdett. He died March 28, 2006.

Survivors include: two sons, David, Larned, and John, Newton; a daughter, Jane, Gig Harbor, Wash.; a sister, Mary Stegman, Larned; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Fagan Olsen.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Mary C. Norris United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mary Ohlemeier presiding. Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned. Burial will be in Browns Grove Cemetery, Burdett.
