Elizabeth Neoma Van Meter

Elizabeth Neoma Van Meter passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Willits on Tuesday, April 19, 2005.

Elizabeth was born on July 18, 1914, on the family homestead in Fort Laramie, Wyoming, to a large family. She was one of nine siblings. Elizabeth was co-captain of her high school basketball team and graduated Fort Laramie High School in 1933.

She married her husband of 40 years, Leonard, in 1941, after which they moved to Maywood, where she was a homemaker and the neighborhood's unofficial daycare provider.

From 1967 to 1975 Elizabeth and Leonard lived in Grass Valley, where they raised a multitude of animals and tended a large and prosperous garden.

In 1975 Elizabeth and Leonard moved to Willits, joining their daughter Kay and her family.

Elizabeth's loves were fishing, quilting, gardening and canning. Her greatest love was spending time with her family.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter Kay and son-in-law Bill Shafer; two grandchildren, Randy and Bill and his wife Teresa; two great-grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob; and a sister in Nebraska.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to all her caregivers and friends at Howard Hospital, Community Care, IHSS, MSSP and Phoenix Hospice, with a special thank you to Dr. Bruce Andich.

At a future date, Elizabeth will be laid to rest with Leonard in Grass Valley.
