Eleanor S. Van Meter

Graveside services for Eleanor S. Van Meter, 76, of Plymouth, N.H., formerly of Dover, will be held at 9 a.m. Aug. 6, at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. Mrs. Van Meter died Saturday, July 13, 2002, in Lakes Region Hospital, Laconia, N.H.
She was born March 4, 1926, in Biddeford, Maine, daughter of the late Owen Royal and Margaret Cleary Sharkey.
She graduated from Biddeford High School in 1943.
Mrs. Van Meter traveled extensively with her husband throughout Europe, Asia and the United States during his military years. They retired in Dover, where she resided for over 20 years. She always enjoyed the ocean and relocated to Bethany Beach. After a long hospital stay, she transferred to Golden View Health Care Center in Meredith, N.H., and had resided there for the last 18 months.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Major John D. Van Meter, and her youngest son, John R. Van Meter.
She is survived by a son, David R. Van Meter of Calgary, Canada; two daughters, Carla Blanchette of Plymouth and Cheryl Long of Hartly; five grandchildren, Shay Proulx, Melissa Sullivan, Wayne Van Meter, Jason Van Meter and Joshua Long; and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Collin Sullivan.
