Obituary

Services for Earl C. "Buck" Van Meter, 70, of McAdoo were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 1991, in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Wendell Horn, pastor, officiating.

The Rev. Carl Coffey, a retired Baptist minister, assisted, and burial in Crosbyton Cemetery was directed by Adams Funeral Home of Crosbyton. Van Meter died at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, 1991, in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born in Rhome and moved to McAdoo in 1926. He married Doris Brownlow on Feb. 19, 1941, in McAdoo. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a farmer. He was a graduate of McAdoo High School and had been a McAdoo school board member of 15 years. He also had been a board member of the McAdoo Coop Gin or 19 years. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Spur Masonic Lodge and First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, James Earl of McAdoo; two daughters, Betty R. Merrell of Sweetwater and Rita A. Harris of McAdoo; two sisters, Marjorie Hardy of McAdoo and Frances Taylor of Crosbyton; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
