Carl Vincent Van Meter

CUMBERLAND Carl Vincent VanMeter, 83, of 11114 Valley Road, NE, Cumberland, died on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at Memorial Hospital.

Born on April 6, 1918, in Maysville, W.Va., he was the son of the late James VanMeter and Carrie (Stump) VanMeter. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Stanley and Cranston VanMeter.

Mr. VanMeter was retired from Local No. 37 Operating Engineers and Heavy Equipment Operators with 55 years of service. He was a member of Bethel Church of the Nazarene.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, S. Christine (Twigg) VanMeter; and a son, Steven Vincent VanMeter and wife Susan, Paw Paw, W.Va.

Friends will be received at the Merritt-Adams Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis F. Dayhoff officiating.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers for Mr. Van Meter will be Ronnie White, Harold Knotts, Dale VanMeter, Dewaine Weaver, Kenneth Carder and James Diehl.

The family requests that memorials be made to Bethel Church of the Nazarene, 11720 Valley Road, NE, Cumberland, MD.
