Billie E. Van Meter
WASHBURN - Billie E. Van Meter, 73, of Washburn died Tuesday, April 17, 2007,
at his residence.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1933, in Rockwood, Ill., to Murray and Edna (Smith) Van
Meter. He married Margaret Sharp on Sept. 24, 1960, in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Scott (Colleen) Van Meter of Trout Creek, Mont.,
and Steven (Luann) Van Meter of Benson, Ill.; two daughters, Sheila (Bob) Durst
and Sheryl (Shawn) Thomas, both of Washburn; nine grandchildren; one
great-granddaughter; three brothers, Homer, Delbert and Wayne Van Meter; and two
sisters, Linda Bare and Anna Marie Kinney.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Roy, Howard and
Donald.
Billie served in the United States Army during peacetime, from 1956 to 1958.
He was a former member of the Washburn American Legion. He was a machine
operator for Caterpillar Tractor Company for 34 years, retiring in 1986.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Calvert-Johnson & McKitrick
Memorial Home, Washburn. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the
memorial home. The Rev. Amy Holman will officiate. Burial will follow in Old
Salem Cemetery in rural Washburn.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude or to the Washburn Ambulance Service.
