 Bernice M. Van Meter 
Bernice M. Van Meter, 93, Heath, formerly of Spencerville, died May 16, 2005.
 
 
She was a resident of Chapel Grove in Heath.  
She was born Oct. 11, 1911, near Spencerville to Charles and Mary Becker  
Fissel. She was married to Loren Cupp Van Meter for 52 years, and he died in  
1987.  
 
Mrs. Van Meter was a graduate of Spencerville High School and Lima Business  
College. She worked as secretary of the Allen County Children's Home, where  
she met and fell in love with Loren Cupp Van Meter, who was a professional  
educator. She enjoyed caring for her husband, four children and seven  
grandchildren.  
 
Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, reading and journaling. An avid  
traveler, her favorite trip was visiting her ancestral home in Gau-Odernheim,
 
Germany. She was a member of First United Church of Christ in Lima, now First
 
Evangelical and Reformed Church, for more than 50 years.  
 
Survivors include three sisters, Pauline Clark of Loudon, Tenn., Doris Miller
 
of Spencerville and Ruth (Don) Koenig of Danville, Ill.; four children, Ann  
(Richard) Chamberlain of Brentwood, N.H., Sue (Don) Lair of Worthington,  
Richard (Mary Lee) Van Meter of Granville and Kurt Van Meter of Liberty  
Center; seven grandchildren, Ian (Lisa) Chamberlain of Hampstead, N.H., Brett
 
(Vicky) Chamberlain of Fremont, Calif., Kristin (Pat) Van Meter McGonagle of  
Granville, Erik (Stephany) Van Meter of Dublin, Heather (David Brandt) Lair of
 
Takoma Park, Md., Nathan (Amy) Van Meter of Granville, and Meredith Lair of  
State College, Pa.; and 11 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Bradley and Jeffrey  
Chamberlain, Abigail, Mary Margaret, Jack and Nora McGonagle, Jakob and Keegan
 
Van Meter, Lydia Brandt and Kate Van Meter.  
 
Graveside services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Shawnee Cemetery, Lima.
 
The Rev. Larry H. Blunden will officiate.  
 
Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical and Reformed  
Church, Lima, where a Celebration of Life Ceremony will follow at 11 a.m.  
 
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to First Evangelical and  
 
Reformed Church, 320 W. Wayne St., Lima, OH 45801; Hospice of Central Ohio,
