A. P. Van Meter

A. P., born in Mountain View, Oklahoma December 29, 1903. Resident of Oklahoma City since 1910. Attended Oklahoma City schools, graduate of Central High, 1922, O. U. Law School, 1927. For over 25 years was active civic and church worker. Worked in YMCA, Red Cross and United Fund drives. Received several outstanding achievement awards in money raising campaigns. Also worked with Boy Scouts and Camp Fire Girls. Member Chamber of Commerce and Junior Chamber of Commerce of which he was a director. Member Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Delta Phi, Knights of Pythias and DOKK. Member Crown Heights United Methodist Church, taught Men's Bible Class 10 years, served as Steward and as Sunday School Supt. Assistant City Atty. for Oklahoma City from 1931-1938. City Councilman of Oklahoma City from 1939-1943. Elected District Judge for Oklahoma County and served as such Judge from 1943-1971. On his retirement he was awarded a certificate showing his outstanding service from Oklahoma Bar Association and plaque from his fellow Judges of the 7th Judicial District for his distinguished public service. He is survived by son, A. P. Van Meter, Jr., Edmonds, Wash.; daughter, Ella Sue Owen of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Memorial contributions to Crown Heights Methodist Church, 1021 N.W. 37, OKC 73118. Services Monday, Dec. 3, 1990, 10:00 a.m., at HAHN-COOK TREET & DRAPER CHAPEL. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.
