Jerry Francis Van Meter

Funeral services for Jerry Francis VanMeter, 59, of Charlestown, will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 29, at Grayson Funeral Home in Charlestown with burial in Bunker Hill Cemetery. He died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at the Medical Center of Southern Indiana.

He was a native of Charlestown, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, a retired forklift operator for Ford Motor Company and a farmer. He was a member of First Baptist Church and American Legion Post #335.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanna VanMeter and his father, Carl L. VanMeter.

Survivors include his wife, the former Patricia Diamond; two sons, Todd Lyons, Indianapolis and Jeff VanMeter, Charlestown; a daughter, Jennifer Almeciga, Charlestown; his mother, Lorena VanMeter, Charlestown; two brothers, Robert VanMeter, Detroit, Mich., and David VanMeter, Charlestown; a sister, Patricia Pershing, Bloomington; a granddaughter and five grandsons.

Visitation at the funeral home will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, and after 9 a.m. Sunday.
