Comment: 2 small rooms not much
bigger than my sister’s walk-in closet. One
machine driven reader, 2 manual readers. Volunteers are very helpful. Limited
films on hand. Order films on loan from Family History Library in Utah here for
a fee as with any Family History Center.

Comments: This is the mother load

Heritage Quest
669 West 900 North
North Salt Lake, UT 84054
(800) 760-2455
Comments: This is where I rent census film records.
They have them all and for around $30 a year for membership you can have
them sent on loan for a $3.25 fee. I
then take to local library to read. They
claim shipping within a day but I’ve never received in under a week and 2
weeks is average.

Iola Public Library
218 E. Madison
Iola, KS 66749
(316) 365 3262
Hrs: Mon – Thurs 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM; Fri + Sat 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Comments: This is by far my
favorite place for census research. For a town of 6,000 it is amazing what they
have, hundreds of census films, 6 Minolta machine readers with one always
available. And a Web site catalog. This
library is the best. The only
complaint I might have is they could use more space for film readers.

manual when I was there summer 2000. A busy place.

Anchorage, Alaska 99501
(907) 271-2441
Hrs: Mon – Fri 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; First Sat of month 8:00 Am to 5:00 PM
Comments: This everybody’s source for census microfilms, they of course have
them all. Had around a dozen film
readers, 4 of which were machine driven. Had
that stupid one film at a time rule.
Oklahoma Historical Society

Oklahoma City, Ok 73105
(405) 521- 2491
Hrs: Mon 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM; Tues – Sat 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Comments: This is the most disappointing library I have been to.
They have a good collection (all states 1790-1900 and AR, IL, KS, MO, TN,
TX for 1910) but the films are so dirty and worn out by heavy use I had trouble
reading them. They assign you one
of 12 of the worst manual readers I have every used.
The storage drawers are sometimes hard if not impossible to open, often
accompanied by a loud screech. Space
is limited and they also have the stupid one film at a time rule.
